Today started at 7.30 am, cloudy weather doesn't look like it will rain. Thought of having breakfast in the next town,or the next michienoki (road station),but couldn't find any convenient shops and the only road station is still not open for business yet,so i continue to ride with only groundnuts to eat. The nearest town is Teshio which surprisingly has no convenient shops. By the time i arrived at Toyotomi is almost noon time, and there is a Seicomart which i quickly grabbed a bento of rice with fried chicken and a big bottle of milk tea. It feel so much better when you are fed with all the energy needed to keep pedaling. After Toyotomi, the next town is Wakkanai which is another 40 km on route 40 merging with the original route 232. In this northern tip of Hokkaido is less populated, with less town and houses along the way. Most of the scenery i passed is wide haze land and wetland, nevertheless the road was really excellent, it was really a joy to ride with almost the whole road to yourself. Arrived in Wakkanai around 3 pm, saw a few whites, most likely they are Russians, as Wakkanai is situated very close to Russia's Sakhalin, there is also a ferry servicing between the two. Thought of camping under the Kita Bohatei Dome ( the famous Dome built to prevent the sea wave ), but I found something better when i saw the camping ground signage in Wakkanai Park located on a hill top. I had to push my bike midway due to the steepness. Nice view at the top overlooking down on the Wakkanai port and city. The camping ground is at the forest land even with deer roaming around. There was a Russian couple camping near my tent, and they offer some bbq chicken to me as my dinner.
